Figgy Figgins

So what have we been up to? We’ve been comitting our labours to “wax”. This is our progress…. looking more like a full album than an E.P. … maybe a 2 E.P. set?

Sensible Fig? Sensi Fig.

So I am sensible am I? Hmmm? Yes, another sensible post from T-Fig. The voice of reason; the face of an angel; the libido of a Bonobo. Ohhhhhhhhh to be a Bonobo (http://www.bonobo.org/whatisabonobo.html).

Do Bonobos eat Figs? Yeah maaan, of course they figgin’ do! They also eat slugs and soil, as does yer very own K-Fig. I don’t eat slugs ’cause I am a vegataranium but I do eat soil if all animals have been carefully removed (K-Fig usually goes to the trouble of doing this for me – he has a fine collection of soil extractions which will soon constitute the body of an installation at the Tate Modern. There are many fruits on our Fig Tree baby!).

Had a great Fig recording session yesteday, recording vocal parts for a new Fig-tune. K-Fig wanted to record private parts too but there wasn’t enough room. Chillis, slugs (for K-Fig) beer and whisky (but not whiskey) fueled, inspired and gave us mighty cheesy grins (see below). Bit fuzzy today – need some soil.

K-Fig eats mashed slugs.

Let’s learn from Bonobos – make love not war. We all have a greater purpose than cross-cultural bickering now, so lets Come Together (http://www.foe.co.uk/campaigns/climate/)

Thanks for giving a Fig!

New Figs Germinating

Aha! You thought we’d forgotten about blogging, didn’t you? But no, we’ve been busy, see? Making new figs… no, not human babies (we’ve done that) – musical babies.

We are keeping our heads down forging and creating, rockin’ and a-rollin’, writing and recording new things for you fighounds out there. The objective is that this year will see us cast our net wide and engulf the many who are as yet un-figged.

So watch this space – Tim’s bound to be along with a more sensible, normal post soon! The new figs will probably be previewed here for a short time once they have ripened… after that, if you liked the taste, you can buy the real thing from us for some paltry sum yet to be decided upon.

Good things come to those who wait. Get figged.

Rockin’ the Peebleans!

Hello again all you figs!

After a triumphant solo K-Fig set at the Heriot Watt University Freshers Week bash, we are back to full complement for a soiree to Peebles this weekend in the august company of our music buddies Floosie Soo and Gecko 3.

We’re kicking off a three act bill at the Burgh Hall in Peebles at 7.30pm on Saturday 14th October. Looking forward to it. Should be a lot of fun considering we hadn’t rehearsed in the last 4 weeks until last night, when we discovered (to our surprise) that “doin’ the Fig” is like falling off a log – sometimes painful, but when you’ve done it once, it’s easy to do it again. So over the next couple of evenings we’ll be polishing our bits and pieces, ready for Saturday night… Hope you can come, it’s a nice place Peebles.

Tickets are £7 and you can get them in advance from Tim or myself, or on the door on the night, if you wish.

DJ Si and DJ Mowgli will be laying own some grooves to keep you occupied in the “bits in between the bits” (hope Ozric Tentacles never read this post), so that’s worth the bus fare and the ticket on it’s own!

Tara then,
Keefy

Back to Skool

Your humble Fignesses are going back to school!

We have a set at Heriot Watt University Student Union at an Acoustic Edinburgh special event running as part of Freshers’ Week.

It’s on 23rd September, it’s free (we think) and anyone can go… you don’t have to be a student to get in. There’ll be loads of quality acts on and it’s a Saturday night, so no excuses!

More information will follow as soon as we get it. So, Erm… watch this space!

Figging Gig Mania

Yo Figs! Gettin F to the I to the G to the G to the Y!

In typical Fig style, a bit of last minute notice for gig type stuff… having been working very hard for the last 2 weeks, I haven’t had time to email the usual suspects an tell them about our gig tonight! I think I’ll send an email anyway and see whom amongst the mailing list’s startled recipients will turn up with a record breaking shortness of notice.

There’s gotta be a prize in it for the “Most Spontaneous Fig Fan”, so if you read this blog entry, you’re not on the mailing list, and you want to beat the listees to the free beer/beverage with your name on it, you should turn up in some sort of fancy dress.

This will accomplish 3 things:

a) Giving us a good laugh.
b) Humble us by letting us know that someone reads the blog and likes us enough to make a tit of themselves.
c) Get you a free beer.

DISCLAIMER:
Due to the fruit of the money tree not being erm.. money, this one-time only offer is made to the first person I spot in fancy dress at the gig (you better hope that some random person doesn’t turn up in fancy dress for a laugh I suppose) OR the first email listee I see… after all, I know who y’all are.

This doesn’t include Fig members or family, that wouldn’t be fair!

If you want to know about the gig, time to arrive etc., it’s in the sidebar on the left! So there!

Cheers dears,
Big K Fig xx

Fig look-a-like gets out of hand

Now, this is just getting silly. Some poor misguided soul, known as Nudge Nudge (hmm, mysterious) thinks these two gentlemen could be the Fig! Ha, hahaha, HAHAHAAAAAA! Arrrrgh!

Time to stop this.

Arthur Lee – Forever Gone

Shit. Just heard that Arthur Lee is dead.

I have been a fan of Love since I first heard De Capo when I was 16. And Forever Changes is one of those rare timeless gems that make up the soundtrack to my life.

When I saw Lee and the Love Orchestra on the TV coverage of Glastonbury a couple of years back I was literally over-come with emotion to see the man back on stage and on form. I saw them later in Edinburgh and was blown away – a teenager’s knowledge that he will never see a hero who did his stuff two decades before was blown to bits, ’cause there HE was, and there I was, singing along with all my heart!

What I bring to what the Fig is, contains a lot of what Arthur Lee brought to me.

If you have not heard Forever Changes, YOU NEED TO NOW!

Rest In Peace Arthur Lee, I am forever grateful.

Fig look-a-likes debate continues

For those of you that have not seen Paul G’s comment on my Two Ronnies entry below, or followed his links, he is suggesting that these two well known bods may have a passing resemblance to the Figs. Don’t see it me sel’.

You know this has to stop. We are serious musicians.

Acoustic Edinburgh

Hi Figgers,

Me and Keith played at the first Acoustic Edinburgh of the Edinburgh Festival last night. Had a great night and thanks to Si and Paul for the invite to play. Someone suggested we have Two Ronnies-esque glasses animation on our web site, one pair of specs movin in from each side of the screen, Nice. Keef, can you knock that up? Not sure where the Two Ronnies reference comes from though, are there really similarities?
