Merry Figging Christmas

Merry Christmas!

Just a quick note to say Merry Christmas to anyone visiting our blog over the festive season.

We’re seeing the year out with a bash at the Village Bar, South Fort St., Leith at 8pm, for free! Come and see us, the Dead Beat Club and their Dutch pal Gerton Govers. PLease come along, it’ll be great if we can fill the Village up to capacity!

Love, K-Fig

Fig at Edinburgh’s VooDoo Rooms, 22nd Nov

Hi Figgers

Following on from two crackin’ gigs earlier this month (thanks for your support!), The Fig will be joining Ten Stories High at the VooDoo Rooms, Edinburgh on Thursday 22nd November. Get yersel’ along, it’s only four quid!

Parallel evolution, or has Beck been listening to the Fig?

Beck?………………………… Hoochie Fig?

Yo Figgers!

Get a load of this! Beck has a new single out. It’s called “Timebomb” and bears more than a slight similarity to a Hoochie Fig track, called “Timebomb”, which was recorded in the year 2000 in a bedroom in Leith. Now, I’m not accusing Beck of plagiarism – Fig forbid! – but it’s a little… spooky. It is pretty unlikely that he has ever heard the Fig Timebomb, though it is possible. It has been available as a free mp3 download from the Fig web site for sometime – though currently isn’t (apologies for the broken song links on the right!).

Here’s the Hoochie Fig Timebomb: figTunes: Hoochie Fig Timebomb (2000)

Here’s the Beck Timebomb in iTunes: Beck Timebomb (2007).

I’m not that bothered really , except that Beck is likely to make a shed load of money from his Timebomb with a mass marketing machine behind him. If only the Fig had similar support (we try our best between day jobs and nappy changes)!

Those of you who have seen the the Fig live in the last year will know that our Timebomb has more recently been rearranged into an acoustic ( and perhaps a little too theatrical!) Gram Parsons-esque lament. Figsters seam to prefer to call it The Whisky Song. This version will be available to buy soon – oh yes!

What do
you think? I’m especially interested in what Beck thinks, if he happens upon this page – so get in touch Mr Hansen! The Fig dig your tunes and you’d probably dig ours. Add comments below.

love and figs,

Fig gettin’ midgey with it…

Hi Figsters

The Fig traveled up to Glen Elg for Amplifico’s Highland Safari in August. The Fig Brothers were pretty well lubricated by the time we got to play – but we had a blast. Donna ‘Fico had misplaced her voice, so we Figged a little longer than expected. A shame we didn’t get to hear Amplifico. Till Lassmann came over from Hamburg just to sketch the Fig in action (well, perhaps not). Here’s a sample of his doodles.

Thanks for the images Till, they’ll be put to good use!

We had to rush back to Edinburgh the very next day before Keith Fig turned into a gherkin, so we sadly missed the rest of the Highland Tour (next year eh?!). Our figgin’ roady (Johnnie “the” Pilot) though had other ideas and dumped us at a disused petrol station and screeched off in his little Deuce Coup with all our hard played for earnings (errr…there weren’t any, of course, but JP didn’t know that).

Thankfully, Mary McCartney was drivin’ past and spotted us. Sensing a once in a life time photo opportunity, she pulled over and started shooting. She told us to stop tryin to phone her Dad and then screeched off in her Alegro. Thoughtfully though, she tossed her memory card out of her window as she sped off and we were able to salvage this one snap. Thanks Mary.

Okay. We have a couple of gigs coming up in November (info will be posted here soon). Other than that we are gonna focus on getting the CD out before the end of 2007. So watch this space for news.

Keep on Figgin’

Fabulous Furry Fig Brothers

Hey there Figsters!

This is a blast from the past. Any similarity between these guys and the Fig is coincidental – honest! But here is another Fig influence for sure…

enjoy.

Safari Sagoodi (Sasorry!)

Hola los figs!

Time for a quick update I think – it’s been 2 months since the last one so I wouldn’t want anyone to think our standards were slipping!

EP Progress

We are making excellent progress with recording our forthcoming EP, which should see the light of day later in the year (probably just in time for Christmas!). We have 6 songs pretty much complete and another couple to finish off, so we should be able to decide on a short list quite soon… how exciting!

Tim and I have decided on a title for our opus and I’ve even done the first rough concepts for the artwork… it’s all coming together quite well indeed – Tim and I are moist with anticipation really, so watch this space.

Fig go on Safari

We are going to join the musical caravan led by our pals Amplifico that’s going to be winding it’s way through the Highlands in August – we will be doing a long-ish set on the first night (23rd August @ Glen Elg Inn) supporting Amplifico, and then enjoying a nice relaxing time for the next 2 nights… ah!

This should be a great laff and we’re looking forward to free-camping for 3 nights in some of the most beautiful surroundings Scotland has to offer… not to mention copious amounts of booze and musical shenanigans – top hole!

There are going to be quite a few folk on this one, so if you fancy it, come along (bring a tent and a smile) – more info available here: http://www.myspace.com/amplifico

Maybe see you there.
Until next time, enjoy yourself (it’s later than you think),

Rotten Fig

‘Tis true, I have been a rotten Fig of late. Keith has really been keeping the Fig alive while I have been looking after bug-full babies and then have been bug-full myself – and still am. So thanks for your ongoing enthusiasm Keith and keeping me just out of reach of the Black Dog.

I’m currently mixing Hi Time and Rusty Car and they are sounding Figtastic. I just wish we had more time! Gonna get the broken links to oldies (on the left) fixed soon – so at least you can listen to them while you wait for the new stuff.

A Fig tree takes a while to grow.

Fig n hugs.

Big Band Mash-up!

Another solo set for the Keefster – Tim’s family have been struck down by a bug so he’s is looking after them – with the Dead Beat Club tonight at the Mercat, Maitland Street, Edinburgh, 9pm and it’s free!

I know it’s last minute, but I’ve only known about it for about a week, so get down there if you can… not sure when I am on, but if you get there at 9, there are loads of other musicians doing a set too.

Quoting Shona from the DBC’s email:

In a brave, some would say almost suicidal move, The DBC are attempting to perform without our beloved Mr Andrew G Tucker tomorrow evening.

Our loss is Loch Ness and the-first-camping-holiday-of-the-season’s gain.

Please join us as we hold a memorial service in his honour.

Friday 18th May
The Mercat
9pm sharp!
FREE

The ‘fantabulous’ Keith Paton (+ Special Guest), Roy Henderson, Sandy Black and a special, for one night only, Cartoon Coffee/The Asphalt Dirtrollers collaboration will be performing for your musical delight (we are currently in ‘talks’ to persuade some of them to lend The DBC assistance as we struggle on…beard-less…fighting back the tears….sniff sniff).

Flip flop tributes welcome.

Special “Guest Stars” and everything… that means that my guest will be pushed out of a moving vehicle at the audience’s feet, “Police Squad” style!

Maybe see you tonight then…!?

Kx

So figgies, what’s been goin’ down?

It’s been a while since we last posted here, so I thought it was time for an update…

New album coming along nicely

Our new album is progressing steadily. I built a little web app to let Tim and I track our progress, but I haven’t managed to get it online yet. I’ll post a link once I get it up somewhere useful! Also thinking about creating a “widget” for it so Mac users everywhere can keep tabs on us if they like!

No official release date yet, but we’ll post on that once we’re clearer what’s happening. We might do an EP as a teaser in June or July… again, we’ll post something about it when we know for sure.

Keith Fig flies solo
Had a great time on Tuesday 1st May at Acoustic Edinburgh doing a solo set. Tim would have been there, but he had other commitments and the short notice of the gig meant he had to miss it.

I took along a hilarious miniature cardboard cutout of the Timster and an audio clip of him singing on my phone. This meant he could make his presence felt without actually being there… got a few laughs and I think he’s now on somebody’s notice board. I think I am going to market it – the ultimate accessory, a MiniFigTM! Complete with one bar of Timebomb’s refrain built in!

Really enjoyed the set. It was 3 songs – ‘Angel Delight’, ‘My Boy Icarus’ and ‘Is There Something I Don’t Know?’ – the first and last of which were new songs, just finished that afternoon and so fresh that Tim hasn’t even heard them yet. They went down really well, which is great – it’s always nice to get to try out a new song or two on a willing audience… the good thing is that now they have garnered some positive feedback, Tim will get to hear them!

-.-

So that’s what’s been happening since our last post. This post will probably slip down the blog a bit as I have some “future” stuff to post, so I hope it get’s read!

Kinchie Nae Mair

Oh well, all good things must come to an end… Alas poor Glen Kinchie I knew him well Beer-Ratio!

Thanks to the Bull Moose for his contribution to fig throatiness and vocal character. All singers need fuel and since there’s 2 of us, it just doesn’t go as far as it should. Boo! Lovely stuff that water of life!
